Who will be walking on October 17, 2020?
Students, parents, grandparents, parish members, faculty, staff, alumni and friends who have been impacted by Catholic schools will be walking on October 17. We will gather together to celebrate the many benefits provided by Catholic education. You do not have to be associated with a specific school to walk. Join us for this celebration of Catholic education.
What is the location of the Walk?
The Walk is held at Mount Mary University, 2900 North Menomonee River Parkway, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 53222.
Can I bring my pet?
We're asking that people refrain from bringing animals to this event, unless it is a service animal. We apologize for any inconvenience, but want to ensure we provide a safe environment for all.
Is there a registration fee?
There is no registration fee for those who register on or before September 25, 2020. From September 26 thru October 17 there will be a $10 per person registration fee. Click here to register
Do I have to collect donations to participate?
All are welcome to join us in this celebratory event. Raising donations is not a requirement of participation, but is highly encouraged. All money raised will stay with the school of your choice.
How do I register and raise donations?
You can register online. Credit Card donations can be made online; cash and check donations should be made directly to your school. Ask friends, family, alumni, etc. to sponsor your participation in the walk.
Online credit card donations are subject to processing fees including banking and secure online giving services. *NOTE: 100% of cash/check donations made directly to a school remain with that school.
Can I register the day of the event?
Yes, registration begins at 8:30 a.m. on the west side of Mount Mary's campus. There is a $10 per person registration fee the day of the event. We will only guarantee a t-shirt to those who register by October 7, 2020.
Where do my donations go and how will they be used?
Donations raised by walkers will stay with the school the donor specifies. For example, if you are walking for “St. John School,” your sponsors will make their check directly to “St. John School.” Online donors will also specify the school of their choice as well as the walker they are sponsoring.
Where can I send my donation?
You can send your check directly to the school of your choice, Attention Soles Walk Captain, or donate online and select the school of your choice.
How do I get my t-shirt?
Walkers, who are associated with an individual school (students, their families, school faculty and staff, and alumni), and register by September 25, may pick up their t-shirt from their School Walk Captain the week prior to the Walk. Please contact your school's Walk Captain for additional information.
If you registered online after September 25, please go to the pre-registration tent at Mount Mary on Walk day to get your t-shirt. T-shirts for those individuals who registered after October 7, will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
What if I just want to support Catholic education as a whole, not a specific school?
Great! You can donate online selecting "Soul Steppers" as your team or make a check out to the “Archdiocese of Milwaukee: Schools Marketing” and your donation will be used to promote Catholic education throughout the archdiocese.
Please mail checks to Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Soles for Catholic Education Walk, Attn.: Marcy Stone, P.O. Box 070912, Milwaukee, WI 53207-0912.
How long is the Walk?
The Walk is approximately two miles long. It begins at the circle driveway on the west side of Mount Mary University, heads north on Menomonee River Parkway to Woodward Ave., and returns to the campus via the Parkway. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather!
What are "Treat & Tweet" stops?
The 15 Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee are sponsoring "Treat & Tweet" stops along the walk route. Walkers are encouraged to stop at each tent to pick up a treat, tweet and post updates about the Walk, while they support Catholic education. Take pictures and videos to share! This is a fun way to bring social media into the mix and get everyone excited about the event. Use the following hashtag on Facebook and Twitter:#SolesWalk
What should I bring with me the day of the Walk?
Wear comfortable shoes, your Soles for Catholic Education t-shirt, and any school spirit wear. Dress appropriately for the weather. The Walk will take place rain or shine.
Where should I park?
Car parking is available on the northwest lawn of Mount Mary University's campus off of Burleigh Street. Bus parking is located in the east parking lot of Mount Mary's campus. Enter from 92nd Street.
There will also be overflow parking available in the east parking lot of St. Joseph parish and school, 12130 W. Center Street, Wauwatosa-on the corner of N. Park Drive (N. 120th Street) and Center Street. A shuttle bus is available to bring you back and forth between St. Joseph Parish and Mount Mary.
Will there be bus transportation available from my school to the Walk?
Please contact the School Walk Captain at your school for more information.
How early should I arrive?
The earlier, the better. Free parking will be available, but police may close Menomonee River Parkway and cross roads as early as 9 a.m. to ensure the safety of all participants. Allow enough time for parking. Participants who are walking with a school group and have received their walk t-shirt from their School Walk Captain do not need to register the day of the Walk.
